Ccommunication Skills 1
This module covers researching business
information and processing reports on research
outcomes. It also develops the skills of listening,
reading, note-taking summarising, writing and
speaking as needed for studying in a higher
education context.
These skills will be achieved through a focus on
texts involving explanation, persuasion, comparison
and contrast, and discussion.
Attention will also be given to information
presented in tabular and graphical form. These
skills developed in this module will be used and
applied in many other modules in the course and will
be a pre-requisite to Communication Skills 2.
Communication Skills 2
This module develops the skills of listening,
reading, note taking, summarising, writing and
speaking as needed for studying in a higher
education context and the workplace.
These skills will be achieved through a focus on
investigation, discussion and argument and through
formal reports and oral presentations. Attention
will also be given to the presentation of complex
information in tabular and graphical form. The
skills developed in this module will be used and
applied in
many other modules in the course.

Computer Applications |
This module is designed to develop students’
competence in word processing and presentation
software as well as using the Internet in a Windows
2000 and Office 2000 environment.

Consumer
Marketing |
This module introduces students to marketing
concepts such as market segmentation, product
characteristics, pricing, distribution, promotion,
market research methods and consumer rights.

Foundations of Economics |
This module introduces to the nature of economic
principles in preparation for more detailed studies
at university level. Topics covered include the
natureof economics, market economy, price merchanism,
the Australian financial system, the stock market,
the firm, production costs, pricing policy, perfect
and imperfect markets.

Foundations of Law |
This module introduces students to a number of
key aspects of business law such as contract law and
negligence.

Foundations of Management |
This module introduces students to basic
management skills and knowledge including
motivation, leadership, change, teamwork and
innovation.

Mathematics for
Business Studies |
This module develops students’ understanding of,
and abilty to apply, selected mathematical
principles and methods which are of relevance to
studies in business and commerce at tertiary level.

Principles of
Accounting |
This module introduces students to the nature of
accounting and to a variety of accounting and
financial principles.

Statistical
Foundations |
The purpose of this module is to develop
students’ abilty to use spreadsheets to present and
interpret statistical data.
